Family photoshoot
I knew that I wanted to capture memories of our family of 3 before baby number 2 came, so we decided to do a family photoshoot at our favorite place, the beach. Doing a photoshoot with a toddler can be really challenging so I am adding some of our photos here to give you some inspiration for your family photoshoot. I could not recommend capturing moments like this more — and hey, if it turns out crazy it’s a great memory of the truly chaotic time in your life and you will laugh about it later.
Here are a few tips to make the day easier:
1. you don’t have to do it at “golden hour” if it effects your sleep schedule — tired kids aren’t the best at a photoshoot (trust me, we know from experience)
2. if you can, do it in a place where they can be free (like the beach) to run around and get those candid shots.
3. you might want to bring a change of clothes just incase things get messy or wet.
4. give your photographer a few ideas of what you are looking for — i might be over the top, but i always give them a mood board of inspiration so that i feel confident they will go the direction that i am looking for. Unless if you want them to take the wheel, that can be fun too.
5. don’t worry about posing. your toddler will not want to wait for the perfect shot, but the likelihood of you getting an amazing shot in the candid moments are high!
6. don’t stress! they take one million photos and you will get something you love out of it. make the experience alone a memory for you and your family.
7. ask the photographer if they can take a few in the moment videos on your phone. i now have a video of us all walking and playing on the beach and it makes me tear up every-time i watch it.
8. need photos for anything else (linkedin, website, etc.) utilize the time you have with your photographer.
9. bringing snacks your kids like can help them be more excited for a photo. you may get a cracker in your shot but i love the realness.
10. be silly and have fun!
